that happened in oregon earlier this week. when i saw this morning that this had happened, i sunk in my chair. you really cannot do justice to what these kids and what these teachers have just experienced. in the classroom where collin goddard was shot at virginia tech, there were 17 people in that classroom. only seven of them survived. two dozen kids were shot and wounded in a high school cafeteria in springfield, oregon in 1998. 1998. the police chief there now, who was a first responder that horrible day at that oregon high school 14 years ago said today about newtown, "i know that there is going to be a lot of emotion in that community." he said," in addition to the victims and the families in newtown, that his heart goetz goes out to the police and the emergency services personnel that responded to deal with this, because this is going to take a toll on a lot of people." beth nimo whose daughter was killed in the columbine high school mass shooting, she said today, as far as the parents go, they're not going to know what hp hit them for a long, long time. my heart is racing. i just feel

and southwestern portions of oregon, the good news we're expecting a lull, as far as any rainfall goes until monday. it will kick off the work week. as we head into tuesday we'll actually see another storm start to impact northern california and the pacific northwest so again we're expecting more moisture and the ground is already saturated from all of the storms impacting the west coast through the work week. and 50, to 70 miles per hour across the northern rockies and portions of california and a number of wind warnings and also some wind advisories in effect out here because of the stormy weather pattern that's in place. as we take a look at the future radar, basically the next 48 hours, a bit of a lull in monday, as far as rainfall through california and the next system arrives producing heavy rain across many of the same areas and already had to deal with it and as we head into some of the higher elevations you're talking snow for the northern rockies and also the cascades across parts of washington and oregon. right now, again, most of it's wrapping up. that's good news, seattle, portland dea

of them in southern oregon, the other one in... the upper part of the lower peninsula of michigan. there were suddenly a large number of people in relatively small communities with very severe, bloody, diarrheal illness. and when these people went to their health care providers, the health care providers took specimens, tested them for the bugs that they knew caused that type of bloody diarrhea and came up with nothing. they turned first to the local, then to the state public health department, and when that didn't turn up any answers, the state asked the cdc for assistance. and so in circumstances where people can't come up with the causative agent, those specimens can then come into our laboratories, and we can run tests for a variety of different things that are both known and unknown. and that's what we did in that particular situation. and one of the things that we noticed is that we found that there were unusual e. coli in several of the specimens that were submitted to us from both oregon and from michigan. now, everyone normally has e. coli in their g.i. tract. it's a norm

portland, oregon, area. when this storm slammed the coastline, 25-foot waves along the shoreline. more than a foot of snow in the mountains. two feet of snow, in washington and the cascades. take this storm inland. it brings hurricane-force winds to lake erie and lake michigan. up to a foot of snow in path that goes from denver all the way toward green bay, wisconsin. and then, that storm continues east, right at the wrong time for the holidays. the strongest northwest storm of the season blew in monday, with winds reaching 100 miles per hour. knocking out power lines, bringing down trees and creating blizzard conditions in the washington and oregon cascade mountains. just south of tacoma, washington, a tree fell into this house. puncturing the ceiling of a baby's room and narrowly missing his crib. the baby was unharmed. higher elevations from washington to utah are now feeling the cold air of this winter storm, and expecting up to three feet of snow. 17 states are in winter weather warnings and watches. from the northwest to arizona and all the way into minnesota and wisconsin. by wednesd

was over, i got back in the kennedy campaign, went to oregon and later to california. i campaigned for bobby kennedy with cÉsar chÁvez. it was a wonderful effort. we went all over los angeles, going into wealthy neighborhoods, knocking on doors, urging people to vote for bobby. and that evening the primary was over, bobby kennedy came up to me and said, "john, i'm going downstairs to make my victory statement. why don't you remain? shooting at an oregon mall made headlines nationwide and tonight the 15- year-old surviving victim is speaking out for the first time. >> being home with family. >> reporter: surrounded by her family on the mend from the unthinkable, christina relives the home she came face to face with the killer. >> i only saw him for an instant only to see he was wearing a black mask and carrying a gun. didn't even realize that it was a real gun. i thought maybe it was a prank. >> reporter: it wasn't until the first shots rang out that christina realized not only was this gun real, but jacob roberts was heading in her direction and as bullets with hissed past her she hid -- whizzed past her she hid behind a pillar by her best friend and when she looked down, she realized she'd been shot in the chest. >> i did feel a lot of pressure and pain, but you can't describe it. >> reporter: christina was rushed to the hospital where doctors removed bullet fragments from her collapsed lung and bruised liver. her father says it's nothing short of a miracle that she's even here. >> biggest present for us

in here. but still a number of rivers across portions of oregon and into california, they are looking at readings that will be, all right, it looks like we have a little difficulty taking place here. but right now we have some of that moisture aimed at the west coast. as a result, we could see a couple more inches of rain. take a look at this. the rain falls from san francisco to portland, into seattle. portland, we have pictures coming out of this region over the last 24 hours. they're looking at a kim more inches of rainfall before it's all said and done. they had a boulder fall on the highway from florence to eugene, oregon. took a couple hours. now, this tree landed on the home. we don't have the reports of injuries or damage there. then, christine, zoraida, looks like for places like chicago, they're expecting those temperatures to drop from the 60s into the 30s. now it looks like winter is going to arrive. >> in chicago she's been enjoying the weather. >> the winter in chicago lasts so long. once it comes it's there till may. >> yes. >> thanks, karen. >>> new twists in the where

as well this is widespread, across the bay area, southern parts of oregon, just the infrastructure can't handle this moisture and underwashing some of these roadways. rescues, high water rescues yesterday and over the weekend. you can just imagine when some of these small streams come up and over the roadways, if you're driving through them people get stuck. the crews are brought in to try to get the job done and folks to safety. across napa valley, incredible flooding there. the napa valley seeing some of its worst rainfall in years. look at these numbers. petrolia, california, over 17 inches. bridgeville, 15 inches. that's an incredible amount of rain. to see that much rainfall is truly remarkable. we are seeing more in the way of rainfall across seattle and portland it has stopped for today in the san francisco area. some of the rainfall yesterday fell in the form of snow, snow levels at about 5,000 feet. i suppose it could have been worse. elsewhere, looking at a foggy travel across the lower great lakes. we'll talk more about that in the next half hour. guys, back up to you. >> ro
